The middle colonies were New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware. These colonies had very rich soil. They grew too many crops to eat so they sold to other colonies including England. They became known as the Breadbasket colonies. The middle colonies had a mixture of people who came from different countries and had different religions. They were English, Swedes, Dutch, Germans, Scots-Irish and French. They all lived very close to each other. The middle colonies also contained Native American tribes of Algonquin and Iroquois.
